Instructor/Assistant Professor Dental Hygiene

Job Description:
Weber State University, Department of Dental Hygiene is seeking two, faculty members both full-time, nine-month Tenure Track eligible positions. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to our strategic framework, and we are actively participating in the University's equity initiatives.

Job Duties:
Responsibilities may include didactic, preclinical and/or clinical teaching of undergraduate dental hygiene students as assigned by the Department Chair; participation in program and institutional activities; community and professional service; mentoring undergraduate projects; faculty mentoring, participation and/or collaborative research and publication of scholarly work to meet tenure requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum five years’ full time equivalent of dental hygiene clinical practice is required, including experience with digital imaging and dental management software.
  • Applicants must have graduated from a CODA accredited U.S. Dental Hygiene Program.
  • Bachelor’s in Dental Hygiene, but as instructor/non-tenure track only.
  • A Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene or higher for tenure-track, with emphasis in Education or Dental Hygiene Sciences preferred.
  • Current Utah Dental Hygiene Licensure with Local Anesthesia certification or eligibility for Utah DH licensure including LA is required.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Part or full-time clinical and/or didactic teaching experience with undergraduate dental hygiene students.
  • A Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene or higher, with emphasis in Education or Dental Hygiene Sciences is preferred; will consider candidates near completion of Master’s in Dental Hygiene.
  • On-line teaching or on-line learning experience.
  • Experience with learning and assessment management systems, (ie., Canvas, Taleval).
  • Evidence of Professional association involvement and active membership.

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading., Required to have close visual acuity to inspect small defects, small parts at distances close to the eye., Required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: operating machines, (i.e. lathes, drill presses, power saws) where the job is at or within arm’s reach; skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, such as carpenter, plumber, mechanic.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
